Investigations in the Leningrad region of the USSR on the newly cultivated fodder crop Caucasian goat's rue (Galega orientalis) indicated that the most injurious insects were Sitona spp., the species present being S. lineatus, S. lineellus, S. tibialis, S. suturalis and S. ambiguus. Infestation adversely affected growth and development, nitrogenase activity, nitrogen contents in plants and rhizosphere, and protein production.
