The environmental implications of a European 'farm survival policy'

, : The environmental implications of a European 'farm survival policy'. Land use for agriculture, forestry and rural development Proceedings of the 20th symposium of the European Association of Agricultural Economists EAAE, July 1989, Newcastle upon Tyne, England: 243-251

Policy makers seem agreed that socio-structural policy under CAP will need to be expanded and extended if it is to play a significant role in the long-term restructuring of European agriculture. Spending more on 'guidance' is a very necessary adjunct to spending less on market support; it can fund more selective measures to speed up the restructuring process and, in the form of income support to beleaguered farmers, can help ease the process of retrenchment.
