The influence of rainfall distribution on the yield of maize under Leucaena leucocephala alley cropping at Mtwapa, Coast Province, Kenya

The influence of rainfall distribution on the yield of maize under Leucaena leucocephala alley cropping at Mtwapa, Coast Province, Kenya

Meteorology and agroforestry Proceedings of an international workshop on the application of meteorology to agroforestry systems planning and management, Nairobi 9-13 February 1987: 383-389

This study was conducted during the long rains of 1985 and 1986. The results showed that rainfall distribution pattern had a significant effect on the yield of maize in the alley cropping system even though the total rainfall for both years was almost the same (1130 mm and 1128 mm respectively). Maize yields for both years were also consistently higher under high L. leucocephala (var. K8) densities than under low densities or as the sole crop.
