To end an epidemic. Lessons from the history of diphtheria

To end an epidemic. Lessons from the history of diphtheria

New England Journal of Medicine 326(11): 773-777

The author draws parallels between the current approach towards the AIDS epidemic in the USA and the management of diphtheria in the USA in the past. He refutes the suggestion that the history of responses to other infectious diseases provides no lessons applicable to containing the spread of HIV infection.
