A theoretical analysis is made of the movement of the blade of a frame saw, and the effect of the trajectory on cutting angles. When the saw is at the top dead point (TDP) the angle of movement of the teeth is pi /2, and as the saw moves from the TDP the angle of movement first decreases and then increases, reaching pi /2 at the bottom dead point. Accordingly, Russian frame saws traditionally have teeth with a clearance angle of 28 degrees.
