Use of meat and bone meal in mixed feeds for young pigs

From about 21 to 60 kg liveweight, 3 groups of pigs were given balanced mixed feeds without or with 4.2% meat and bone meal or 4% meat and bone meal containing 10% tannin industry byproducts replacing fish meal and dried skim milk. Mean daily gain was 596, 629 and 596 g, respectively. Digestibility of nutrients and nitrogen and mineral balance was best with 4.2% meat and bone meal. Digestibility of fats and fibre decreased with 4% meat and bone meal.
