Use of the BactoScan 8000 in quality grading of supplier milks

Use of the BactoScan 8000 in quality grading of supplier milks

Scandinavian Dairy Information 5(3): 57-60

In this paper, the assessment and subsequent use of the BactoScan 8000 as an alternative to the plate count method for use in a milk testing laboratory is reported on. The BactoScan is a fully automated instrument for making direct microscopic counts of bacteria in milk. Bacteria are separated from a 2.5-ml milk sample, which is treated with a lysing liquid to dissolve protein and somatic cells, by a gradient centrifugation technique.
