Abstract
Observations and selections in a hybrid population obtained using the dwarf mutant Moskovskii Karlik [Moscow Dwarf] indicated that the degree of dwarfness in different plants and progenies varied across generations, leading in some cases to deformation of organs and complete sterility. The correlations between traits influenced by the pleiotropic effects of the mutant dwarfing gene differed in different plants in the hybrid generations and were weakened in some cases. Selection in progenies with unstable inheritance allowed maintenance of small changes and combinations of useful traits determining lodging resistance, grain and ear size and earliness.
