Which method to use in describing the diversity of forage nutritive value in permanent grassland? The example of hay meadows in the French northern Alps

Which method to use in describing the diversity of forage nutritive value in permanent grassland? The example of hay meadows in the French northern Alps

Herba 3: 36-39

The consequences of sward diversity in permanent meadows for devising a model to describe variations in forage nutritive value are examined. The advantages and limitations of 3 methods: a species approach where the forage value is assessed on the basis of relative abundance; a global study to establish a hierarchy of factors affecting nutritive value; and a typological approach which defines homogenous vegetation types and investigates variations in nutritive value for each type are presented.
