Whole milk fattening of veal calves. The influence of feed additives on performance and health

In two fattening trials 64 male Simmental x Red Holstein cross-bred calves each were used to investigate different feed additives on growth, feed intake, feed conversion and health condition. Calves whose milk diets were supplemented had higher growth rates (9 to 28 % depending on the product used), and better feed conversion rates (2 to 12 %) compared with control calves which were fed only whole milk. This improved performance is primarily due to higher feed intake.
