World reaps benefits from CIMMYT: Mexico's International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center. An overview of CIMMYT's Maize Germplasm Bank
An outline is given of the work of CIMMYT's Maize Germplasm Bank. The Bank holds 10 910 accessions representing mainly landraces, but also composites, modern varieties and wild relatives (teosinte and Tripsacum). A computerized system contains passport data on all accessions and maintains current records on seed in storage, seed distribution and accessions due for regeneration, and produces field books for recording data from germplasm evaluation. All passport data is now available on CD-ROM.
