Yield and yield components of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) in relation to crop rotation and fertilizer application

The results of wheat performance in 1981-88 in long-term field trials initiated in 1962 at Legnaro, Italy are discussed. Wheat was grown once every 6, 4 or 2 years or was grown continuously, with or without catch crops after harvesting autumn-sown crops. Different fertilizer regimes were also compared: the use of cattle slurry or crop residue incorporation; and cattle manure + recommended or double mineral NPK fertilizer rates.
