For 30 Large White (LW) gilts and barrows slaughtered at 4, 5 or 6 months of age, body weight at slaughter averaged 59.3, 69.5 and 92.9 kg resp. vs. 34.0, 48.3 and 62.3 for 30 Creole pigs slaughtered at the 3 ages; carcass yield averaged 79.2, 81.6 and 83.5% vs. 76.1, 79.2 and 83.1, and the percentage of fat in the carcass 12.8, 11.2 and 14.5 vs. 12.4, 18.1 and 18.4 (P<0.001 for all breed differences).
