A political economy model of common property regimes and the case of grazing management in Zimbabwe

A political economy model of common property regimes and the case of grazing management in Zimbabwe

Paper Pastoral Development Network ( 34b): 42pp.

Conceptual frameworks for the analysis of common property rights are important because they allow for the comparison of individual cases and generalization across diversity. This paper critically analyses the framework developed by Oakerson (1986), and although many of its features are found to be worth retaining, it is seen as inadequate in its treatment of power and authority, as well as social and economic structures.
