A study on toxicity of Astragalus strictus in goats in Tibet

Pulverized Astragalus strictus (20 g/kg B.W) was given to 6 goats daily via rumen fistula, supplemented with the dried plants (200 g/day) for each animal ad libitum. Pathological signs characterized by CNS disorders were: depression, shaking head, staring eyes, dullness, ataxia on the day 40-47 of the experiment, hind limbs weakness, hind quarter paralysis, recumbency. Laboratory examination showed serum AKP, GOT and BUN increased significantly.
