Embryo-derived cultures of coffee cultivars were transformed with 5 strains of Agrobacterium tumefaciens which carry different plasmids. Strains GV3111 (pTiB6S3) and A281 (pTiBO542) were identified as having a high infection capacity. Light-yellow, fragile and fast-growing tumorigenic calluses were obtained on hormone-free MS medium; after 4-6 weeks' culture on hormone-free MS medium, tumorigenic calluses developed a mass of teratoma-like shoots.
