Analysis of the role of the late-flowering locus, GI, in the flowering of Arabidopsis thaliana

The recessive mutation gigantea (gi) is a late-flowering mutation of A. thaliana. A detailed phenotypic analysis of 3 representative mutant alleles indicated that gi mutants have a defect in the promotion of the floral induction process by long-day photoperiods and not in the flowering process. Temperature-shift experiments using a partially conditional allele were employed to determine the timing of the functional requirement for the product of the GI locus.
