Analysis of variation in regenerants of the inbred maize line A188

In a study of regenerants from callus derived by culturing immature embryos on MS medium, a high frequency of abnormal development was noted, including abnormal leaf arrangement and morphology, branching, and bisexual tassels. These changes were not inherited but sometimes reappeared in the seed progeny of phenotypically normal regenerants.
