Analysis of yield determination in sugar cane



Sugar Cane ( 4): 14-16



In field trials at Tucuman, Argentina, 30 genotypes were evaluated for sugar yield per unit area and its components stalk number, stalk weight, stalk length, stalk diameter, refractometric Brix of the juice and estimated percentage cane sugar (S%). Results were analysed by the Grafius geometric model, which indicated that selection based on individual yield components is less effective than when selection takes account of their interactions.
