Analytical problems in the determination of inorganic soil contaminants

Analytical problems in the determination of inorganic soil contaminants

Soil monitoring: early detection and surveying of soil contamination and degradation: 201-218

This paper describes a method of determining inorganic pollutant origins by the chemical analysis of entire soil profiles. A case study is used to illustrate the method in which Pb has been extracted with nitric acid and NH4/acetate/EDTA from soil samples collected from each horizon in 100 soil profiles from Switzerland. The total (HNO3) and the extractable (NH4/acetate/EDTA) amounts of Pb varied significantly among different parent materials.
