The 2 species studied, P. sinensis and P. uniflora, differed from representatives of the subfamily Prunoideae in some taxonomically important traits, including traits of nodal and petiolar anatomy (structure of the leaf trace and petiole vacular system), periderm location and site of periderm initiation, and leaf mesophyll structure.
