Anatomical studies on the effects of boron on the development of stamen and pistil of rape (Brassica napus L.)

Stamen and pistil development was studied in rape Ningyou 8, Ningyou 7, and LP6 flowers in response to 0.22, 0.51 and 0.80 p.p,m. B. Boron deficiency seriously affected floral development in Ningyou 8. The abnormalities observed included pollen sac shrinkage, abnormal tapetum development, abortion occurring from PMC to unicellular pollen developmental stages, exposed stigma, poor development of papillae, and arrested differentiation of some ovules and embryo sacs.
