Anatomy and floral differentiation of Meeker and Heritage cultivar raspberry buds

Anatomy and floral differentiation of Meeker and Heritage cultivar raspberry buds

Agro Sur 19(1): 48-54

Primary bud samples from canes of raspberry cultivars Meeker (one flowering/year) and Heritage (2 flowerings/year) growing in southern Chile were collected between Dec. 1988 and Feb. 1989 and Apr. and Aug. 1989. Histological sections were stained with saturated Sudan 111 solution. Examination of external anatomy showed that besides having a well developed principal bud at each node these cultivars also had a second smaller auxiliary, non-flowering bud below.
