In a study of the intensive-type German hybrid KBC701 and old Russian variety Voronezhskaya 76 (of the same maturity group but differing in yield potential), which were grown in the phytotron at low, moderate and high light intensity, the size of cells in the leaf epidermis, stoma density and size of the stomatal guard cells varied with intensity of light. Stoma size at moderate and high light intensity was greater in the hybrid.
