Angiostrongylus costaricensis enterocolitis mimics Crohn's disease

Angiostrongylus costaricensis enterocolitis mimics Crohn's disease

Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition 16(2): 203-207

Two cases of Angiostrongylus costaricensis (Parastrongylus costaricensis) infection are described in girls (aged 5 and 14 years) who had recently arrived in the USA from Chile and Ecuador (the latter was a native of the USA who had spent 14 months in Ecuador). Both cases were initially diagnosed as Crohn's disease but were subsequently found to have abdominal angiostrongylosis.
