Animal population of high mountain Caucasus: soil protists (Protozoa, Testacea)

Forty four species of Testacea were found in eight samples taken in subalpine meadows and in an isolated forest region of the Central and Eastern Caucasus at heights of 1800-2500 m above sea level: 32 in the mountain-meadow soils, 38 in the forest soil, and 10 only in the soil under the forest.
