Animal-waste management and emission of ammonia from livestock housing systems: field studies

Animal-waste management and emission of ammonia from livestock housing systems: field studies

Livestock Environment IV Proceedings of a conference held in Coventry, UK, 6-9 July 1993: 1169-1175

A special research project was carried out to test housing systems in the field for their ability to reduce ammonia emissions. Tests on 4 livestock housing systems designed to reduce emissions by means of integrated waste management are described. The first was a broiler house with floor ventilation to continuously dry the litter. Secondly, a tying stall for dairy cows with limited soiled area was measured. In a piglet battery house manure was removed from the unit by scrapers.
