Anion-cation balance in tobacco plants: particular significance of the difference Delta between total alkalinity of ash and total nitrogen content

The principles of anion-cation balance in tobacco plants are discussed and the relationship between total ash alkalinity and total N as an indicator of the stage of senescence of leaves at a given stalk position is described. Practical studies confirmed that total ash alkalinity of the leaves decreased significantly from the bottom leaves to the top leaves and increased with plant age.
