Annual activity of a population of Catasarcus asphaltinus Thompson (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) in Perth, Western Australia

Annual activity of a population of Catasarcus asphaltinus Thompson (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) in Perth, Western Australia

Australian Entomological Magazine 18(1): 21-24

A population of Catasarcus asphaltinus was studied in a garden in Western Australia during August 1986- May 1987. Adults were active mainly during August-May. Peak abundance occurred in January, before the average weekly maximum temperature exceeded 30 degrees C. Peak reproductive activity, evidenced by pairs in copula, was also recorded in January. Longevity could not be precisely estimated, but some individuals lived at least 33 weeks.
