Mouse monoclonal antibodies (MAb) to the surface mannosylated glycoprotein of P. carinii of ferret, rat, mouse and human origin were produced. In every case except one, the MAb recognized only organisms obtained from the same host species as those used for the immunization. The glycoprotein (gp) had one conserved epitope, which was recognized by the MAb 85-1-5E12.
