Wheat grain samples were collected from 7 experimental stations throughout Germany. Mean N:S ratios >1.7:1, indicating S deficiency, were found on 4 rural sites while in 3 industrial areas the N:S ratios were <1.7:1. Environmental factors were more important than cultivar effects in determining grain S concentration.
