Balsam woolly adelgid (Homoptera: Adelgidae) effects on wood and bark structure of Fraser fir and silver fir

, : Balsam woolly adelgid (Homoptera: Adelgidae) effects on wood and bark structure of Fraser fir and silver fir. Environmental Entomology 21(5): 1103-1109

The response of Abies fraseri to the adelgid Adelges piceae was evaluated by studying wood cores and bark samples taken from 6 sites near Mount Rogers, Virginia, and 5 sites in the Black Mountains of North Carolina surrounding Mount Mitchell. For comparison, samples were also collected from A. alba at 4 sites in the Black Forest of Germany. Average densities of D. piceae were higher on trees at Mount Rogers than on trees at Mount Mitchell.
