Barley development from the viewpoint of a crop geneticist

This review contrasts the results of physiological field experiments with current knowledge of barley genetics. Time of flowering is critical to consistent yield performance and is under contol of major genes and quantitative trait loci. Today breeders are designing and testing genotypes that will be grown into the next century under systems with lower agronomic inputs.
