Beauty and the Beast: a critical look at sports violence

, : Beauty and the Beast: a critical look at sports violence. New Zealand Journal of Health, Physical Education and Recreation 26(4): 9-13

Sport can serve as an important site for a critical look at violence. The paper firstly outlines some of the problems that encompass the concepts of violence and aggression, followed by a focus on one of today's most controversial sports, boxing. Some of the contradictions that emerged in the 1992 New Zealand case of a banned rugby union player are examined.
