Beekeeping in Brittany

, : Beekeeping in Brittany. Sevel gwenan e breizh: 135 pp.

This book deals with traditional and modern beekeeping in Brittany. It includes a selection of articles written by Breton beekeepers between 1900 and the 1930s, with the aim of improving beekeeping. The author points out the importance of the introduction of buckwheat in the 14th century. Until the 1950s it remained the main source of honey, which was dark and strong-flavoured and much sought after for gingerbread and mead making. Honey was exported to Norway, Netherlands, Belgium and Spain.
