For a long time, Suiker Unie have studied sugar content, tare, K, Na, alpha -amino-N and frost damage as measures of sugarbeet quality; the individual factors have different economic significance in different countries and firms, but the method is considered to have general applicability. A payment system based on these variables was developed and implemented in 1988.
