Combining ability and heterosis for mutant character of quantitative characters in flue-cured tobacco varieties (Nicotiana tabacum L.)

In the progeny from a diallel cross involving 3 flue-cured varieties and the mutant line 83H5, heterosis was somewhat higher in the F1 than the F2. The mutant line showed significant positive GCA effects for total alkaloids and total nitrogen in the F1 and days to flowering in the F2.
