In field trials conducted near Hope, Arkansas, during 1991, the effects were evaluated of Tordon K at 0.6 t/acre and Tordon 101M at 0.2 t in selected tank mixtures with Garlon 4 at 0.2 t, Arsenal AC at 0.05 t, Accord (surfactant) at 0.4 t and Garlon 4 + Arsenal AC at 1 + 0.31 t when applied to crowns of southern red oak (Quercus falcata), water oak (Q. nigra), willow oak (Q. phellos), sweetgum (Liquidambar styraciflua), shortleaf pine (Pinus echinata), loblolly pine (P. taeda) and miscellaneous species, using visual assessment for brownout at 4, 6 and 8 weeks after treatment. Percentage brownout increased with the addition of Accord in the tank mixture from 59.6-87.1 and 63.3-82.3% for Tordon 101M and Tordon K alone, resp., to 73.5-91.3 and 63.3-82.3%, resp., and generally decreased slightly (except for Garlon 4 at weeks 6 and 8) with tank mixtures incorporating Arsenal AC, Garlon 4 and Garlon 4 + Arsenal AC. Sweetgum brownout was generally poor for most treatments. It was concluded that Tordon K could be substituted for Tordon 101M in areas where 2,4-D use is restricted.
