Comparison of variety development by means of anther culture or the conventional pedigree method in 2-rowed and multi-rowed winter barley and summer barley

Comparison of variety development by means of anther culture or the conventional pedigree method in 2-rowed and multi-rowed winter barley and summer barley

Bericht uber die Arbeitstagung 1991 der "Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Saatzuchtleiter" im Rahmen der "Vereinigung osterreichischer Pflanzenzuchter", Gumpenstein, Osterreich, 26-28 November 1991: 113-124

Techniques used by the German seed company Nordsaat GmbH to produce doubled haploid plants by means of anther culture and plants bred conventionally using the pedigree method are described. A comparison of the 2 techniques indicated that the doubled haploid method shortened the breeding process by 2-4 years compared with the conventional method.
