Copper resistance of Xanthomonas campestris pv. juglandis in French walnut orchards and its association with conjugative plasmids

Copper tolerant strains of X. campestris pv. juglandis were isolated from walnut orchards in the south west and south east of France. Tolerance of copper was demonstrated to be associated with the presence of conjugative plasmids. It is suggested that these copper tolerant strains provide an explanation for the incomplete control of walnut blight by copper sprays.
