Cost-benefit analysis and the problem of locating environmentally noxious facilities



Journal of International Development 6(1): 79-92



Many development projects include proposals for the construction of facilities to provide useful services to the general community. Facilities such as sewage treatment plants, transmission stations, public utilities, nuclear power stations and airports are necessary for development and growth but residents living near these facilities may suffer from the negative external effects. The problems in siting an environmentally noxious facility are discussed.
