Cutting frequency, nitrogen rate and irrigation on white clover/grass swards. I. 1st harvest year

Lolium perenne/Trifolium repens and pure L. perenne swards grown on sandy and sandy loam soil were cut 4 or 6 times/year to simulate a silage or a rotational grazing system, respectively. The grass/clover swards were given 0, 175, 300 or 425 kg N/ha, and pure grass received 425 kg/ha. Four different irrigation regimes were applied. Grass/clover yield was 10 700 FU/ha with 4 cuts and 10 300 FU/ha with 6 cuts, while cutting frequency had more effect in pure grass.
