The susceptibility of Plutella xylostella collected from Mizobe, Kagoshima Prefecture, Kyushu, Japan, to 2 chitin synthesis inhibitors was determined by the leaf-dipping method using 3rd-instar larvae. Larvae were collected twice a year (April and November) in 1989-91. P. xylostella showed a high degree of resistance against chlorfluazuron and teflubenzuron. The LC50 values to chlorfluazuron increased from 11.8 p.p.m. in November 1989 to 329 p.p.m. in November 1991.
