In trials in 1984-88, sowing rice seed in furrows 1 or 3 cm deep without covering the seed gave good emergence with a greater emergence from furrows 3 cm deep than from furrows 1 cm deep. Lodging resistance was greater with furrows 3 cm deep than with furrows 1 cm deep. Yields were higher with deeper furrows and higher with than without stubble incorporation.
