Direct binding the lectin-mediated binding of erythrocytes to haemocytes of the insect, Extatosoma tiaratum

Direct binding the lectin-mediated binding of erythrocytes to haemocytes of the insect, Extatosoma tiaratum

Developmental and Comparative Immunology 14(3): 269-281

Treatment of haemocytes of Extatosoma tiaratum on a monolayer with fixed rabbit erythrocytes in the presence of Ca2+ resulted in about 11% plasmatocytes (PL) and 58% spreading granular (SG) cells rosetting. Pretreatment of haemocytes with lactose, D-galactose or asialofetuin reduced rosetting, suggesting that the membrane-associated receptors involved may be lectins.
