Ecodevelopment and genetic diversity in insect fauna of Western Ghats, India

Ecodevelopment and genetic diversity in insect fauna of Western Ghats, India

Annals of Entomology 1993; 9(2): 71-76

The adverse effects of human interference, especially clearing large tracts of natural vegetation for agricultural and plantation crops, on the ecology and insect fauna of natural forest ecosystems in the Western Ghats, India, are discussed, and case histories for some groups of insects are presented. The topics discussed include composition and diversity; land-use and management practices; deforestation; agricultural and plantation crops; and monoculture plantations.
