Ecofriendly biobag - an alternative to polythene bags

Ecofriendly biobag - an alternative to polythene bags

Indian Forester 119(9): 768-770

Use is described of 'biobags' made from Sabai grass (Eulaliopsis binata) as an alternative to polybags in the nursery, in trials carried out at the Social Forestry Project Range at Balasore and Jaleswar, Orissa. Advantages include biodegradability and better seedling growth. Disadvantages are susceptibility to white ant attack on the periphery of beds, development of brittleness during decomposition (thus eliminating the possibility of moving bagged stock) and the high cost.
