Ecological analysis of natural forest management in the humid tropics

Ecological analysis of natural forest management in the humid tropics

Race to save the tropics: ecology and economics for a sustainable future: 59-79

After an introduction discussing the problems of degradation and non-sustainability of existing patterns of tropical forest exploitation, this chapter goes on to evaluate various natural forest management systems which have been attempted, including the Malayan Uniform System, the Tropical Shelterwood System, Polycyclic Felling Systems, the Strip-Clearcut System, and Low-Intensity Clearcutting.
