Ecological and silvicultural characteristics of Greek firs in their natural area and in plantations in the south of France

Revue Forestiere Francaise 45(2): 119-133

Details are given of the geographical, altitudinal and bioclimatic distribution of Abies cephalonica and A. borisii-regis in Greece, and also their soil requirements, forest types, colonizing ability, natural regeneration, silviculture, pests and diseases, wood production and wood quality. Details are given of the performance of various Greek provenances of these firs in a series of trial plantations in the south of France.
