Ecological culture of vegetables using plastic materials

The plastic coverings investigated comprised (1) low tunnels; (2) direct covers; (3) soil mulches; and (4) insect-excluding netting. Materials included low-density polyethylene, ethylene vinyl acetate and non-woven polypropylene. The vegetable crops grown were lettuces of various types, Chinese cabbages, red chicory, curled endives, carrots, red and white cabbages and leeks. Data from the various experiments are tabulated.
